Dahab: Three Pools + Bedouins (Photos)

    in Egypt

Dahab, along the Red Sea, is probably one of my favorite places in Egypt. It's in contrast to the clubs, bars, private beaches of Sharm el Sheikh, as a Bedouin fishing village with a laidback vibe. If you're looking for a more low key beach town vibe vs. commercial it's the place to visit.

People come here mostly to dive and snorkel.

We came to spend time in the Red Sea, to swim, eat seafood and get away from the crowds, in a place that felt peaceful and transformative.

A popular snorkling spot called Three Pools is one of the most spectacular places within Dahab, both underwater (coral reefs) and above.

We watched Bedouin boys dive off and ride their camel...

...and went for a swim ourselves.

We rode horses and hiked atop a mountain overlooking the sea (you can see Israel from across the water) with a Bedouin guide who later took us to his family's home for a meal.

Some Bedouin families host people for dinner as a way to make extra money, along with being guides and running tourist businesses in the region.

    Nothing beats home cooking.
